You're getting ready for spring cleaning and you need to clear out the toy bins and closets.  Donating is great, especially before tax season, but you want your items to really make a difference.  Sure there are great thrift shops that support a great cause, but you're looking for something a little more impactful that doesn't require a day trip to donate.

Here are a few donation options local to Folsom and El Dorado Hills that you may not be very familiar with:

1.  Friends of Folsom~501(c)3:  A local non-profit organization, managed over Facebook by Nicole Sacco-Jones.  It provides items free of charge to individuals in the local community.  People wanting to donate post directly to the Facebook page, and people wanting the items get in line as in a Facebook yard sale group. Donations are tax-deductible and Nicole emails donation slips to whoever donates.

2.  H.A.S. Hope (Folsom free P.I.F) 501c3:  A local non-profit organization, serving the Folsom community managed by Heather Riley and a few other administrators.  It provides items free of charge to individuals in the local community and tax deductible.  People wanting to donate post directly to the Facebook page, and people wanting the items get in line as in a Facebook yard sale group.  The group administrators have final say of who can keep the items as they have a wait list of families in need of specific items.  They also provide four drop off locations at which one can pick up a donation slip if arranged beforehand by contacting one of the group's administrators.

3.  Twin Lakes Food Bank:  Located at 327 Montrose Drive Folsom, CA 95630 serving Folsom, El Dorado Hills, and Granite Bay.  They welcome new or clean, gently used clothing, shoes and outerwear for adults and children.  Blankets, small appliances, bedding and kitchen utensils are desired. Baby necessities such as formula, baby food, disposable diapers and clothing are needed throughout the year.

4.  Gabriel Project:  A ministry of St. John Catholic Church here in Folsom, they have moms who are the most needy in the area and provide them with necessities for their baby (i.e. Clothing, bottles, car seats, diapers).  You can drop off donations at the church located at 307 Montrose Dr, Folsom, CA 95630, (916) 985-2065, contact Danielle Portelli at dtportelli@gmail.com.

5.  Savers/Value Village Donation Drop:  Located at 817 East Bidwell Street, Folsom, CA, 95630, this donation drop location is available to take your used clothing, shoes, housewares and more.  Every donation you make at your local Donation Drop Spot goes to a nonprofit organization in your community like Epilepsy Foundation of America.

6.  Donation Town:  On-line website and service for scheduling a donation pick up of clothing and household items in support of one of the following charities (you choose upon scheduling):  Vietnam Veterans of America, Snowline Hospice, The Salvation Army, or United Cerebral Palsy of Sacramento.

7.  Orangevale SDA Food and Clothes Closets:  Located at 5810 Pecan Ave Orangevale, California 95662.  A neighboring non-profit organization committed to serving needy individuals and families in the community.  Donations accepted include gently used toys, clothing, rice in its original bags, canned soups, canned diced tomatoes, and canned veggies.
