Local Scholarship For Moms Going Back To School

By Susan Goodrich May 11, 2017

Calling All Mamas! The S.P.R.O.W.T. Scholarship is Your Opportunity to Go Back to School

Granite Bay’s Dr. Christa Clark is a mother, wife, surgeon, and self-proclaimed late bloomer—and she knows first-hand the complexities of going back to school later in life. The expenses alone can be overwhelming, and figuring out how to make it work with children or work obligations can feel near impossible.

Which is why she is proud to announce the first annual S.P.R.O.W.T. Scholarship (Supporting & Promoting Real Opportunities for Women to Thrive)! Dr. Clark created this scholarship to help support non-traditional, female Californian students by reducing some of the burden of going to school as a parent, partner, or full-time employee.

Scholarship eligibility

The S.P.R.O.W.T. Scholarship is open to all nontraditional, female students who live in California and plan on attending college or university in-state. Eligible applicants must be considered a “nontraditional” student by the National Center for Education Statistics standard definition, which requires meeting one or more of the criteria below:

     Delayed enrollment into higher education;

     Part-time college student;

     Works full time;

     Has dependents other than a spouse;

     Is a single parent;

     Does not have a high school diploma.

How you can apply for the S.P.R.O.W.T. Scholarship

If you meet one or more of the criteria above, we encourage you to apply via Dr. Clark’s website by 5 PM PDT on May 31, 2017. Download the application, answer all the questions to the best of your ability, provide original answers to essay questions, and submit your completed form through the uploader. Easy!

The recipient chosen by the Scholarship Committee will be awarded $5,000 to be used for educational experiences, including tuition, supplies, textbooks, transportation, and housing.

Best of luck, everyone!
