Wizard World Comic Con Sacramento - Visit Another Dimension!

By Marisela Morales June 17, 2017

Last night, my family got to experience another world, the Wizard World Comic Con in Sacramento.  It was our first time attending an event such as this, and we did not know what to expect.  All we did know was that it was a great opportunity to dress up the kids like super heroes!

We entered the Sacramento Convention Center through the West lobby as the event is being hosted in Halls C, D, and E.  There wasn't much of a crowd on Friday night, which made it easier to navigate with kids.  Upon entering we immediately saw the autograph booths and were excited to spot Lou Ferrigno, best known as the Incredible Hulk!!  Well spotting him was pretty incredible and I was tempted to ask for a picture with him when I literally ran into SciFi celebrity Cas Anvar.

I'm embarrassed to say I did not know who he was or what SciFi shows and movies he was in.  He was super nice, friendly, and humble.  I requested a photo of him but of course, that wouldn't be fair to everyone else who has to make a purchase to get a free selfie.  So if your favorite celebrity is going to be there, bring a little cash in the range of $40 or so to purchase a signed, laminated autograph and possibly get a selfie with him/her!!!

As you walk the floor, you'll run into a sea of comic, anime, animation artists and art.  You may be able to witness some of their amazing work in progress.  These chalk artists were coloring in this amazing sketch.

Keep an eye out for the batmobile (or Vroom Vroom as my 2 year old likes to call it) and the Ghostbusters truck!  We just missed the Ghostbusters team but caught a glimpse of Batman capturing Harley Quinn, the Joker's girlfriend.

There is no shortage of things to buy.  You'll find lipstick, jewelry, art, stuffed animals, legos, fidget spinners, and expensive weapons.  We bought our first fidget spinners for just $5.

You'll enjoy a myriad of entertainers when you visit.  We saw a fun zombie hula hoop dance team perform, which my 6 year old loved.  Yup, she's into zombies and all things Halloween :/

If you walk down the furthest right aisle from the entrance you'll bump into a little kids zone with face painting, coloring, The Fairy Godmother's princesses, and a Kids Stage.  Got the munchies, food is right next door to the Kids Zone.

Here is the princess schedule so you can make sure to keep the littles entertained so you can get your turn at some fun as well.

There is also the opportunity to get comic sketches of yourself by very talented artists, one being Phil Ortiz the Simpsons designer!

The people watching was probably the most fun part for us.  Everyone is super friendly and more than willing to pose for photos.  My daugher was super excited to take a picture with Harley Quinn in full costume.

For the true comic con nerd and/or aspiring artist, writer, producer or director , there are numerous workshops to discuss everything from finding time to work on your passion, using nerd culture to escape, to creating an action figure action movie (A.F.A.M.)  There will be conversations with your favorite celebrities.  Singles can enjoy a Sci-Fi speed dating session.  Dive into the world of cosplay with your favorite costume and enter the costume contest.  There will be a costume contest for littles as well.

There really are tons of workshops for people wanting to dive deep into the creation of pop culture movies, shows, comics, anime, animation, and gaming to name a few.  Check out the full Wizard World Comic Con Schedule.

Overall, we had a fun time with the kids and enjoyed trying a new kind of activity with the kids!
