A Lifetime of Discovery Awaits with the EDHCSD

Celebrate Park and Recreation Month with us in July!

By National Recreation and Park Association July 1, 2018

Get ready to unlock a lifetime of discovery this July with the El Dorado Hills Community Services District (EDHCSD) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation Month. Created by NRPA, Park and Recreation Month specifically highlights the vital and powerful role local parks and recreation, such as the El Dorado Hills Community Services District, play in conservation, health and wellness, and social equity efforts in communities all across the country.

This year, it’s all about highlighting the unique — and sometimes unknown — offerings of your local parks and recreation facilities. From STEM programming to innovative health and wellness opportunities, your local parks and recreation facilities have a wide variety of beneficial programs. NRPA and the EDHCSD are encouraging everyone to get out there and discover everything that is offered at their local parks and recreation facilities!

In El Dorado Hills, there are many ways you can celebrate Park and Recreation Month! Take photos with the Park and Recreation Month photo booth banners and be sure to post pictures on social media with the hashtags #DiscoverJuly and #EDHCSD (look for the banners throughout Community Park); check out summer camps and classes; enjoy Family Fun on the Fourth (July 4); attend the Food Truck Festival and Flick & Float on July 18 (Moana will be playing at the Community Pool!); enjoy Parent’s Night Off July 20-21 by dropping your kids off at the CSD for an awesome sleepover, then take in Clean Slate’s performance at the Summer Concert Series the same night; or participate in any of the amazing activities happening at the Gilmore Senior Center, such as Movie Monday, Coffee Talk, and even National Hot Dog Day.

“July is the perfect time to highlight all the benefits parks and recreation provides right here in El Dorado Hills,” said District General Manager Kevin Loewen. “Our local parks and recreation directly contribute to reduced obesity rates, an improved ecosystem and increased property values.”

The District is leading initiatives and providing opportunities for people of all ages to achieve healthier lifestyles, promote and understand nature and conservation as well as bringing the community closer through a variety of programs and services. For example, the District been working toward future sustainable fiscal stewardship and in the coming months Community Park is getting new solar-covered parking, a solar-thermal shade structure at the pool, and LED lighting retrofits in the coming months. These improvements will tremendously offset the District’s annual energy consumption costs and impacts on the environment.

Nationally, NRPA is celebrating Park and Recreation Month with a weekly contest encouraging people to show them the unique things they’ve discovered at their local parks. NRPA also encourages everyone that support parks and recreation to share something new they’ve discovered with the hashtag #DiscoverJuly.
