Folsom Coworking Space To Open In October

By Marisela Morales, Macaroni Kid Folsom - El Dorado Hills publisher July 24, 2018

Folsom Coworking and Event Space is planning a soft open in Folsom on October 1st, 2018.  If you aren't familiar with the coworking space concept and you or someone you know telecommutes for a corporate job, works from home on a personal business, or is considering starting a new venture, then you will definitely want to read on.  We chatted with one of the owners, Kyle Middleton, to bring you the 411.  This article outlines what coworking is, the unique way Folsom Coworking is bringing this trend to Folsom, what it will do for Folsom, who it is for, and the people behind it.

What is coworking?

Coworking is a growing trend that is developing to meet the needs of the changing workforce in our societies.  With more people telecommuting there is a growing need to create a workspace where one can have access to office equipment such as printers, copy machines, high-speed internet, meeting rooms, brainstorm opportunities with other professionals, and concentrate in a quiet space.  Because let's face it, for those with toddlers and/or homeschoolers at home, a quiet working space is quite hard to come by.

Coworking provides a communal work environment without the huge expense and loneliness of renting a workspace on your own. With a monthly membership, corporate professionals and business owners can access a community workspace with all the perks of a large office within an upbeat, communally designed space.

About Folsom Coworking & Event Space

Folsom Coworking & Event Space will have beautiful conference rooms, coworking space, private offices for two to four-person teams, private desks,  lounge areas, and a communal area with tons of tables.  They are working with MTA Inspired Spaces from Sacramento on the design (they have done some pretty cool stuff.. check it out here www.mtaoffice.com/projects).

There will likely be a podcasting room as well.  They have also partnered with Taylor Made Doulas to create a comfortable pumping space for mothers.  Fun amenities will include free locally roasted Kingdom Coffee, the perks of Sutter Street, access to the American River bike trail, views of Lake Natoma, paddleboards to borrow on your break, and more.

Folsom Coworking will create an atmosphere of collaboration.  They will host "Show and Tell" events, where workers can share projects, receive feedback/advice/support, and collaborate. They plan to partner with expert entrepreneurs to provide mentorship opportunities to new entrepreneurs.  Furthermore, a number of educational opportunities and coaching will be available to members.  Some capital investment opportunities will be available to specific levels of membership.

Check out the various levels of membership HERE.  Membership pricing is broken down according to the amenities an individual requires: coworking space, reserved desk, private offices, conference rooms, event space, etc.  Folsom Coworking is currently selling pre-opening annual paid-up discounted memberships.  2 months are being offered free with an annual payment.  Pricing ranges from $79 per month to $225 for coworking memberships.  Additional types of memberships are available.

Lastly, event space will be offered after hours and on weekends for small to midsize events... birthday parties, corporate parties, fundraisers, conferences, and whatever fun ideas the people of Folsom come up with.  Event space will accommodate up to 100 people with full-service events including catering from local businesses.

They also hope to invest in local nonprofits by allowing the use of their space at discounted rates.

What will it do for Folsom?

New restaurants, bars, and shops are desirable for economic development, but local coworking spaces are the attraction that cities should be seeking relentlessly. If a business is started locally, it’s going to spend its money locally and encourage its members to support other local businesses as well.

More importantly, Folsom Coworking is a place for people to belong.  Loneliness has become an epidemic in the United States and Folsom is no different.  Folsom Coworking is a place for people to have the freedom and encouragement they need to grow.  Educating members and investing in local startups is a core value of Folsom Coworking.

Who is it for?

Coworking spaces are great for freelancers and telecommuting professionals who need a professional work environment with all the office amenities.  Have a small team of people?  No problem, Folsom Coworking will also offer private office plans for teams or individuals who are looking for a little more privacy or space.

Most importantly, this is a space for people pursuing their dreams and desiring an atmosphere that supports them, celebrates them, and laughs with them in the midst of the chaos.

Who's behind it?

Folsom Coworking is a growing community of entrepreneurs and small businesses with a passion for the benefits of a true coworking space. The physical space is being developed currently by a local Folsom wife and husband team, Amy and Kyle Middleton.  Amy currently homeschools 4 of their 5 children and is often found developing and leading small communities with other homeschoolers. She is currently the director of a competitive speech and debate club with 40 local high school students.  Kyle had owned a local insurance business for the past 15 years.  In his spare time, he has worked with youth and adults in many capacities including mentoring, coaching volleyball, leading groups on international ministry trips, and multiple day rafting excursions.  Their oldest daughter Adia is a Sophomore in college and works part-time to do online marketing for Folsom Coworking.
