Sometimes, going to the dentist can be daunting for kiddos. This can make dental visits quite the hassle for moms and dads from start to finish. - Introduce your child to the dentist at an early age. Going to the dentist won’t seem like such a foreign and scary thing if you expose your child to the dentist at an early age. The American Academy of Pediatric Dental recommends all children be seen by their 1st tooth or by their 1st birthday.
- Set a good example for your kiddo! By this, I mean show excitement about your own dental visits and enthusiasm for your dental health. Your child looks up to you and if you express your trust in dentists, they are more likely to trust dentist as well.
- Instead of going to a general dentists, go to a kid-friendly dental office. This can make a huge difference for your kiddo. Usually the staff at kid-oriented dental offices are trained to work with kids and often times will make the place fun and inviting for kids.
- Arrive early at appointments to spend a few minutes to hang out. Kids Care Dental & Orthodontics has fun waiting rooms filled with TVs, video games and toys to help children relax before appointments. It’s a perfect way to ensure a stress-free start!
- Let them feel involved. Ask the dental rockstars if your child can tour the office and explain what they’re seeing to reassure them that a dental environment isn’t scary at all.
