There's no greater joy in my heart than to witness the marvel in my children's eyes when they experience nature. Their eyes grow big as if to try to swallow what they see with their eyes into a memory box for safekeeping and playing. Their grin slowly grows as they turn and start to jump or jiggle saying "Look, Mama, look!". Seaworld San Diego blessed me with several of these joyful moments just a couple of weeks ago.
Seaworld is filled with exhibits for grown-ups and children of all ages to experience and wonder at sea life up close. From aquariums and explorer reefs with touch pools to large animal shows and encounters, the whole family has the opportunity to learn fun facts, closely observe, and simply admire sea life.
My kids were immediately drawn to the cleaner fish explorer reef. After hearing on a daily basis from me, "Don't touch that! We see with our eyes not with our hands!", they were ecstatic to hear me say "go ahead put your hand in the water and touch the fish". I didn't have to tell them twice! They both immediately placed their arms in the pools elbow deep. The fish swarmed to their arms to "tickle" them as my kids shrieked with excitement.
Another touch pool favorite was the bat rays. I loved that my 4 year old noticed the texture and described it as soft and slimy. My homeschool mama heart jumped knowing he was learning while having fun. It's awesome that attendants are always closely watching that the bat rays, like other animals, are treated gently.
You can't go to Seaworld San Diego without experiencing the animal shows. We were able to check out the killer whale and dolphin shows. It's always amazing to see the tricks these animals are able to do. I love that the shows focus on educating the audience on the anatomy and biology of the animals and on the environment these animals thrive in. The audience was encouraged to be environmentally conscious with sea life in mind throughout the shows.
If you don't mind getting wet, make sure to sit in the wet zone. You are bound to get soaked! It also makes for a great memory-making experience.
For those antsy kids that need to burn some energy, make sure to give them some time to run, jump, and climb at the Sesame Steet Bay of Play. A splash pad will refresh the kids on a hot day. Jumping pillows and a huge climbing structure with rope ladders, bridges, and towers will help them burn some energy. The Sesame Street Bay of Play also has tot-sized rides perfect for training little ones to love the thrills of amusement park rides. You will also find slightly bigger rides nearby to accommodate bigger kids.
Adults don't get left behind on the amusement park fun. There are several adrenaline-pumping rides to chose from. The Journey to Atlantis is a full roller coaster with water splashing fun. The Electric Eel is not for the faint of heart with its high speed, twists, turns, reversals, and upside-down loops. There are also fun family rides like the Shipwreck Rapids and the Manta.
Seaworld San Diego always has great rates and promotions going on, making visiting the park very feasible. Halloween Spooktacular is now in full effect with weekends full of Halloween family fun activities including trick or treating, a dance party, a Sesame Street Halloween Parade, a pumpkin hunt, and more! This Halloween fun is going on through October 27th, 2019. Don't miss out!
