Bassi Falls

Hike El Dorado County

By Stephanie Silva May 31, 2023

If you are looking for a beautiful location for your next hiking adventure, then check out Bassi Falls in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range just up Ice House Road. With all the water and snow we got this year, there is no better time to check out these raging falls. At a height of 109 feet it is quite the spectacle.

There is ample parking at the trail head and down the side street however it does fill up so early morning or late afternoons may be best. Be prepared there are no bathrooms but there are plenty of bushes and trees around in an emergency. The hike is pretty well marked and about 4.5 miles round trip. We kept our 2 year old in a backpack but our 6, 8 and 10 year old did the hike just fine. From start to finish, including a picnic lunch we completed the trail in just under 3 hours. There were people of all activity levels enjoying this gem, so don't let the length or incline scare you out of the beautiful scenery.

There are quite a few mosquitoes out so bug repellent or covered clothing would be a good option. We didn't notice any poison oak on the trail but it's always best to keep an eye out. Dogs are allowed on the trail on leashes. It is a heavily trafficked area so there will always be people around if you get off course. I hope you and your family have a great time and don't forget the camera!
