CONSTRUCTION:
Scarecrows must be durable and able to stand up to sun, wind and very likely rain showers (hopefully). Use care in choosing your materials. All decorations must be firmly attached to your scarecrow. We recommend a 2 x 4 piece of lumber for the central body. A broomstick or 2 x 4 is recommended for the arms. We will supply one 4 to 5 foot tall tree stake already placed into a bale of hay & one bale of hay per entry. You will need to bring rope, zip ties or wire to attach your scarecrow to the stake (feel free to bring additional props). Scarecrows and props must fit into a 4’ x 4’ foot area. If you choose to bring fresh vegetables or fruits (like pumpkins) they must be whole and not punctured or carved, to ensure they last through the duration of the contest. You are encouraged to visit your scarecrow and keep it in good presentable condition. We reserve the right to remove any entries that do not maintain their display ability. All entries must be hand-made. No commercial costumes, rubber masks, plastic masks etc. will be allowed. Electricity will NOT be provided. Only solar or wind power for moving parts may be used.
Signage will be provided: category of your entry, your name, business, or service club etc. (This will help your friends and family find your entry when voting.) No advertising or political statements are allowed.
The scarecrow contest exhibit area is family friendly. Scarecrows should be whimsical, humorous, mischievous or lovable - NOT frightening. Monsters, gruesome, bloody or especially scary entries will be disqualified. EDHCSD reserves the right to disqualify entries they feel to be distasteful or not family friendly.
DROP OFF & SET UP:
You may bring and set up your Scarecrow on Thursday, October 17 from 10am-5:00pm and Friday, October 18 from 9am-5:00pm. All entries must be in place by Friday, October 18 at 5:00pm.
